The Town of Washington has been made aware of fraudulent emails impersonating the Town of Washington Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board and requesting wire transfers or other forms of payment to complete application-related transactions.
Please be advised: The Town of Washington has NEVER and WILL NEVER request a wire transfer as a form of payment for any application, fee, service, or transaction.
Residents, applicants, and property owners are urged to use extreme caution when receiving emails that appear to come from the Town. Always carefully check the sender’s email address. Official Town business is conducted only through email addresses ending in @washingtonny.gov.
If you receive an email requesting payment, banking information, a wire transfer, or any other action that does not seem correct, do not send payment or provide any personal or financial information.
Please forward the suspicious email to ccbriggs@washingtonny.gov or call the Town office at 845-677-3419 to verify whether the communication is legitimate.
Please remain vigilant and remember: scammers can make fraudulent communications appear legitimate. When in doubt, contact the Town directly before responding or making any payment.
